SACP Eastern Cape statement on the ANC Provincial Conference
14 September 2009
The SACP wishes to congratulate our ally of more than 60 years for the successful conference held during the past weekend. The conference represents a victory for those who want see the ANC as a caring organization and instrument of the workers and poor to better their lives.
A week before the conference as the SACP we have called for both a change of leadership and change of heart in order to defeat a new tendency that aimed at capturing the ANC for its narrow class interests. The outcome of this conference is in line with our call and has positioned the ANC to be able to provide leadership to its membership and the alliance in a unifying manner.
This represents a decisive break with past where we had an ANC that was anti alliance and serving the interests of the elite at the direct expense of the people of the Eastern Cape. We also wish to congratulate all the elected comrades, this time is the time to serve and unite and it is not the time for triumphalism and revenge.
And the SACP we strongly believe that, the ANC message after Polokwane conference, a message of continuity and change should be the basis in the province for taking things forward. We will support the new leadership for making changes where necessary and continue with what is working. We also salute all SACP cadres, including our provincial secretary and chairperson for being elected in their own right as ANC members.
As the SACP, we look forward to working with the new leadership in building a strong alliance able to face all challenges confronting our province. This cannot have come at a better time as we prepare for the coming local government elections of 2011.
