SACP District Council Press Statement Skenjana Roji District Eastern Cape Province
3 March 2008
The SACP held its ordinary District Council on the 02 March 2008 attended by 80 delegates representing branches across our district. The council welcomed the outcomes of the Polokwane 52nd ANC conference, which successful defeated the power of money over the will of the people.
It represented one single act of ordinary cadres of the ANC reclaiming the ANC as a peoples parliament and an instrument to better the lives of the majority as opposed to the current growth path that benefits a minority. (Both black and white)
The council also saluted the ANC members for voting many of the SACP leaders into the ANC NEC as members of the ANC in their own right. We view this as a vote of confidence by the core constituency of ANC to key leaders of our party. At the same- time we see this as a call to build stronger branches and districts of the SACP whose role is to programmatically assert that ours is a struggle for socialism.
Council took note of the fact there are some elements in our district and province that have not accepted the Polokwane outcomes and are busy seeking to consolidate lost ground in name of preparing for the 2009 general elections.
As the SACP, we are mindful of the fact that they will seek to do things in the name of Polokwane not in the spirit of Polokwane resolutions. This will be designed to lock the SACP into some age of hope whilst they continue on the ground to behave as if there has been no Polokwane.
This in the main is reflected by the continued purging of communist cadres in key positions in the local state and marginalizing other comrades from participating in the life of the ANC as an organization. This include physically assaulting some of our comrades and breaking their cars as it took place in a village in Nkonkobe Local Municipality few weeks ago. These are the acts of hooliganism and counter revolution as the SACP we strongly condemned.
As the SACP, we never had any illusions that our salvation from the ills in this region and province will come from Polokwane. We always knew that we are going to struggle and defend our organizations as instruments of the people including our ally the ANC. If Polokwane has in the main opened space for Peoples power at a national level, we are going to struggle to ensure that peoples power also prevails even here in our region and province.
Council also called upon all SACP branches to take part in the struggle to build quality public health system in our country. This include continued SACP participation in the Save Makhiwane Campaign against the down grading of that Hospital as part of the notorious Service Transformation Plan (STP) driven by the Health MEC, Nomsa Njajula against the will of critical stakeholders like SACP, COSATU, ANC and Mdantsane residents.
In the above context, council also welcomed once again the courageous act by Dr Madiba, which again confirms the challenges facing the health system in our province, in particular Frere Hospital in the face of denials by some of our political leaders. Effectively, Dr Madiba has confirmed what Dr Nokuzola Ntshona raised last year, which led to her suspension and dismissal this year. The quietness on the part of the authorities pertaining to Dr Madiba represents a serious predicament, as it is both difficult to act against him on the correct issues he raised and not to act as they have done to Dr Ntshona.
On the Browse Mole investigation by the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence (JSCI), the council find the silence about those who were found to have been conducting illegal activities targeting President Zuma rather deafening. In addition, as council, we believe that part of the evidence for conspiracy against President Zuma has been uncovered through this investigation.
For the past few years, people have been asking for evidence of the existence of conspiracy against Zuma when we argued that he has been treated unfairly and his rights violated. As the SACP, it is our considered view that illegal activities of the SCORPIONS represent part of this evidence. And it is on this score that we expect the authorities to act with speed without favour.
On the coming 5th Provincial Congress of the Party, council welcomed preparation report presented by provincial Treasurer, comrade Bulelwa Tunyiswa and further called upon all branches to prepare for this conference so that SACP is positioned as effective instruments as we approach the 2009 general elections.
