21 August 2020
The South African Communist Party (SACP) received the sad news of the untimely passing of one of the greatest and fearless uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) commanders, Comrade David Mbulaheni Malada, affectionately known as “Peter Dambuza”. General Dambuza died yesterday, Thursday 20 August 2020, in his home in Limpopo.
The SACP dips its red flag in memory of this struggle hero and communist cadre, and sends heartfelt condolences to the Malada family, our ally the African National Congress (ANC), MK veterans, the entire Liberation Movement and all South Africans.
General Dambuza left the country to join MK at an early age of 19 years. He underwent military training and grew to become one of MK’s bravest and daring freedom fighters. It was because of his commitment and fearlessness that he was deployed into the country to operate in the Transvaal rural machinery. He fought face to face against the apartheid regime’s army, the South African Defence Force (SADF) in the Northern and Eastern Transvaal. He led many battles from the front. He once heroically commanded an 18-personnel MK unit that destroyed and flattened a SADF base in the Eastern Transvaal.
Comrade Dambuza dedicated his entire life to the liberation struggle and the building of a non-racial, non-sexist, united, democratic and prosperous South Africa. In Comrade Dambuza, we have lost one of the most dedicated freedom fighters. Comrade Dambuza continued to serve his people in the MK National Council. He was also a member of the Executive in Vhembe District Municipality and an ANC veteran. He was active in our entire movement concerned about the alarming levels of corruption in some sections of our government and the private sector. He led marches by MK veterans to the previous provincial administration of Limpopo Province in the fight against corruption. Comrade Dambuza’s indomitable spirit of resistance and non-surrender to capitalist and imperialist subjugation will always be amongst us.
The SACP dips its red banner in honour, memory and as a tribute to this outstanding son of the soil, hero of heroes, and pledges to continue the fight for the unity of the working class in the struggle for socialism.
Hamba Kahle Mkhonto!
Avhaedele nga mulalo muhali wa vhahali!
