The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape refutes Friday's (3 July 2020) report by the Independent Newspapers that one of the killers of our District Secretary Comrade Siyabulela Siswana has been arrested and subsequently appeared before court. The South African Police Service in the province has confirmed with the SACP in the province that such a report was untrue and misleading. Against this background, the South African Police Service took it upon itself to engage with the Independent Newspapers and thus a revised news report was issued later on Friday.

The SACP in the Western Cape calls on the Independent Newspapers to tighten its quality assurance including verification of facts for purposes of safeguarding the image of journalism. Furthermore, the SACP calls on the police to expedite their investigation to urgently apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice and closure for the Siswana and SACP family.
