Mpumalanga SACP media statement

23 November 2009

The SACP in its Provincial Council which took place on 22 November 2009 in Ephraim Mogale district at Middleburg together with their allies in Mpumalanga re-confirmed the alliance as a strategic centre led by the ANC in pursued of our National Democratic Revolution.

The Provincial Council discussed key policy position in preparation of our special National Congress highlighting issues such as rural development, land reform, transformation of state and state institutions and our fight against corruption.

The issue that has been signed out by the Provincial Council is lack of transformation of the apartheid special reality and the continued colonial industrial structure which has only co-opted few black faces, whilst the majority of our people are excluded and denied opportunities to participate in the economy due to its lack of transformation.

The council further noted that the lack of transformation of this colonial industrial structure has produced two interrelated challenges for our country. The first being the continued exploitation and marginalization of blacks, in particular and the working class in general ( who by the way constitute 90% of our population). The second challenge is the escalation of inequality in our country as the Gini co-efficiency indicator has shown that South Africa has become the number one unequal society in the world.

The Provincial council also endorsed the alliance summit as an important platform for development of policy and joint programmes for the alliance to deal with political and society challenges facing our people. The council further indicated the centrality of our alliance at this stage of our revolution and as the most important tool of our people to change their lives for the better.

In order to deal with the effects of the global economic challenge the council restated the need for a new era in macro-economic policy focus and an industrial policy that will focus on rural development and the general industrialization and move from primary goods exporter, to a labour intensive economy based on the need for the people in our country.

The council further called on the government to respect the decision of Moutse, which was tested through a democratic process, which indicate without shadow of doubt that the people of Moutse want to belong to Mpumalanga.

We re-affirm our confidence in the National Chairperson of the Party comrade Gwede Mantashe, who is also doing a splendid job as the Secretary General of the ANC, advancing the interest of all South Africans especially the poor and the needy.

We further wish to support our Deputy General Secretary, comrade Jeremy Cronin, he is a tested revolutionary intellectual, whose contribution to our liberation cannot be equated to Malema’s opportunistic and stupid out bursts.

Malema’s behaviour is disgracing such a dignified, powerful name of the ANCYL and we are not shocked of his ill-discipline. He was elected, President of the ANCYL through a public display of buttocks, signalling, anarchy and the worst form of ill-discipline.

We are appealing to the disciplined well mannered members of the Youth League, to reclaim the culture and traditions of their organization, of respect for the elders whilst being militant, to advance a revolutionary change to benefit primarily, the disadvantage youth of South Africa.
