Mpumalanga 8th Congress PEC, 7th PWC Plenary Session Statement

The 8th Congress Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in Mpumalanga Province convened the 7th Plenary Session of its Provincial Working Committee (PWC) on Sunday, 19 January 2014. The meeting was held in Emalahleni, and assessed progress made on implementing the resolutions of the last Plenary Session of the PEC. The PWC received and considered the Political Report, which was presented by the Provincial Secretary, and further developed the 2014 implementation plan to take forward the Party Programme – the South African Road to Socialism, policies and resolutions.

The meeting took place after a successful African National Congress (ANC) January 8th Statement and 102nd Anniversary Rally, which was held in Mbombela. The massive attendance at the rally was a proof that Mpumalanga is ready to deliver an overwhelming majority for the ANC in the forthcoming elections.

There were numerous activities leading to the Rally. The SACP showed its commitment to the ANC by having Red Fora meetings addressed by our General Secretary comrade Blade Nzimande and 2nd Deputy General Secretary comrade Solly Mapaila. Those who fabricated distortions across the province, that the Party was planning to boo President Zuma, were not just disappointed, but exposed of their intentions to cause divisions with the alliance.

The manifesto affirmed the ANC’s commitment to address the triple challenges of inequality, unemployment and poverty faced by the country. We are encouraged by the political determination of the ANC-led government to reorganise and effectively de-tenderise the state. This is something lumpen-tenderprenuers will never celebrate, because certain undue influences, often corrupt, that they exercised will no longer have space.

We have confidence in the ANC as led by President Zuma that it will deliver on the manifesto. We however acknowledge the challenges which are still there. This will need every responsible citizen to play a meaningful role in being patriotic and therefore in participating to over such challenges. All progressive and revolutionary forces should rise in defence of the revolution and the gains achieved since the democratic breakthrough.

The National Democratic Revolution

The PWC noted NUMSA Special Congress posture towards COSATU, the alliance and the ANC-led government. We are not shocked by the resolutions taken thus that affirm our characterization of the union’s national leadership. We will fight for unity and cohesion of the federation even if it means being unpopular. We will fight for the unity of workers because divisions among them are an occupation of the enemy.

The imperialists will from time to time seek those political opportunists masquerading as Marxists to confuse the masses with their politics of workerist demagoguery. Workers should not be misled into losing confidence in the federation, alliance and the ANC.

No eviction of SACP from the union’s premises will deter the Party from continuing the fight against opportunism, all sorts of liberal and anti-communist tendencies. The SACP will continue its fight against imperialist forces as well as their agents wherever they rear their ugly manifestation.

Our campaigns

The SACP in the province has started work, taking forward a vigorous campaign in building and strengthening working class hegemony and continuing to fight for working class interests. Our Joe Slovo Campaign is now in session, and we are going to distribute school uniform in selected schools based in disadvantaged communities. We will continue with our campaign to achieve transformation in the financial sector, land redistribution and agrarian development. We will intensify our anti-corruption campaign, quality universal health campaign in particular the National Health Insurance, and the Know Your Neighbourhood campaign.

2014 General Elections

The SACP will channel its energy in making sure the ANC gets at least 90% electoral victory in the province despite some elements within the movement who are hell-bent on criminalising the Party in the province.

We call upon all our structures to ensure that the ANC wins the forthcoming Provincial and National Elections with a decisive majority.
