KWAZULU-NATAL SACP REJECTS IFP ELECTORAL COURT CHALLENGE AND CALLS ON ANC TO FORM PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT
19 April 2004
The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the KwaZulu Natal Province calls on the African National Congress to proceed without hesitation in the process to lead and form a provincial government.
The SACP in KZN emphatically rejects and condemns the decision by the Inkatha Freedom Party to challenge the outcome of the KZN provincial elections. This IFP action is not a legitimate legal challenge but a deliberate act of political brinkmanship done in order to undermine the outcome of the elections which have been endorsed as credible, free and fair by the IEC, the African Union and virtually all the independent observers.
The SACP calls on the people of KZN, including IFP supporters, to defend democracy by rejecting the IFP court challenge and support an ANC-led provincial government. The SACP believes that many IFP supporters and leaders want to see the stability, peace, deepening of democracy and ongoing transformation that the ANC victory means for KwaZulu Natal.
