Anonymous Western Cape Document
11 Februaray 1999
The SACP is surprised that the radio stations of the public broadcaster have
seen fit to carry a head-line news story based on "an anonymous
document" alleging an SACP Western Cape plot to undermine the ANC. We
are especially surprised that the SABC has gone ahead with the report without
the courtesy of seeking some response from the SACP.
The anonymous document carries extremely grave disinformation designed to sow
division in the ranks of the ANC-led alliance. The reports come,
ironically, days after the Central Committee of the SACP has met and resolved on
an extensive election programme to ensure an overwhelming election victory for
the ANC.
The reports are also broadcast on the very eve of the three-day extended
National Executive Committee meeting of the ANC to finalise the ANC electoral
lists. We suspect that the timing is not accidental.
According to the SABC reports the anonymous document makes all kinds of
racial allegations, which are typical of anti-communist disinformation tactics
of the apartheid dirty tricks departments of the past. The authors can
only be enemies of the transformation process, those who fear the unity of our
alliance.
