Greeting message of the CC of KKE to the 13th Congress of SACP

9 July 2012

Dear comrades,

On behalf of the Central Committee of the KKE please accept our warm comradely greetings for your 13th Congress.

Our two parties have built a relationship of comradely cooperation, solidarity and friendship and we consider necessary to contribute further to the development of the bilateral relations, of the joint activity in the framework of the international communist movement, the international trade union organizations, the WFTU, the movement against imperialist interventions and wars, the youth and women`s movement.

Today, the developments stress that it is even more necessary to defend and develop the principles of our worldview, of Marxism-Leninism, to defend the achievements of socialism, which managed in a few years to solve crucial problems that remain unsolved in capitalism. The abolition of unemployment, the establishment of exclusively free health care and education, the development of science, the contribution to the struggle of the peoples constitute achievements which cannot be erased by the simplistic, slanderous attack of capital`s forces.

The counterrevolution, the overthrow of socialism in Soviet Union and the other socialist countries cannot conceal that socialism is necessary and relevant. The forces that talked about the end of history and class struggle have been refuted.

Reality has proven that capitalism which is in the highest, in the imperialist stage of its development is the cause of the sufferings of millions of working people worldwide. It breeds poverty and unemployment, it suffers from incurable diseases, contradictions which manifest themselves with cyclical crises but also with wars for the expansion of the business activity of the monopolies, for the distribution of markets, for the control of the wealth resources.

The capitalist economic crisis that manifests itself in the capitalist world is deepening. The basic contradiction of capitalism, the inter-imperialist competition and contradictions are sharpening. Imperialist alliances, such as the EU, are being shaken; realignments are taking place in the imperialist system through the restructuring of alliances that intensify the inter-imperialist competition in our region, with the involvement of the US, the EU as well as of Russia, China and powerful regional powers and alliances. Militarization is being intensified, the repression mechanisms are reinforced; NATO is promoting an even more aggressive doctrine. The alarming developments in Syria and Iran, the recent change of borders in Sudan, in the Balkans, the issue of Palestine and Cyprus are merely some of the imperialists` "pending issues". It is in these flashpoints, and in other ones as well, that they will seek to serve their interests which, given the aggressiveness of capital in conditions of crisis, can find a way-out through war for which the peoples will pay a heavy cost.

However, capitalism is not dangerous merely in the phase of crisis, it is also dangerous in the phase of economic growth, in the phase that capitalist accumulation and over accumulation takes place, the situation of the working class deteriorates, the contradiction between capital and labour is intensified and the anarchy of capitalist production manifests itself more intensively with the disturbance of proportions and balances that were formed in the previous period and thus economy is led to a crisis. The issue of the workers` power, the socialization of the basic and concentrated means of production, central planning, the relevance of socialism appears more distinctly.

The crisis of capitalism proves the outdated historical limits of the system and therefore its supporters are engaged in a race in order to distort the real causes of the crisis and deceive the workers. All parties that serve the system converge to this goal, liberal, social democrats, the opportunist forces at national and European levels through the party of the European Left (ELP). By restricting their criticism to the neoliberal management of the system they seek to whitewash the system and foster illusions that capitalism can overcome its contradictions and in particular the basic contradiction between capital and labour that leads to the crises through a different management, through another formula of economic policy (e.g. reviving new Keynesianism).

Dear comrades,

We consider necessary to inform you that the recent negative election result for our people cannot reduce the significant role of the KKE in the struggle of the working class, the people and the youth. Mass class struggles took place in the previous period in Greece in which the KKE and PAME, i.e. the class-oriented trade union movement which rallies in its ranks hundreds of class-oriented trade unions, federations, labour centers and struggle committees played the leading role. The communists, the forces of the Communist Youth Organisation, the workers that support the PAME have been at the forefront in the more than 30 general strikes, in tens of massive workers` and people`s demonstrations, in the occupations of Ministries and other state buildings.

The KKE has waged a significant struggle in the two recent elections. In the elections of 6th May it received 8,5%. It spoke clearly about a plan for the weakening of the party. It predicted and fought back, as much as possible, this organized anti-KKE attack and stood on its feet receiving 4,5% of the votes and electing 12 MPs.

The losses of the KKE, which do not reflect the impact of its positions and its activity, took place under the pressure of the current of illusions and the rationale of the alleged lesser evil, the painless and easy path through which it is allegedly possible to form a government to manage the crisis on the terrain of the monopolies` power and the assimilation in the EU, which will manage to stop the deterioration of the position of the people. At the same time, there was the impact of the atmosphere of fear and intimidation concerning the expulsion of Greece from the Eurozone. They occurred in conditions of a systematic and underhand offensive by the ideological-political mechanisms of the system, even through the systematic use of the internet. The main goal was the weakening of the KKE in order to prevent the rise of the labour movement in conditions when the position of the people is deteriorating. On this terrain two poles of the bourgeois political system were formed, the centre-right and the one of the contemporary social-democracy that substituted the old PASOK, which has been damaged in the consciousness of the people, by the opportunist party of SYRIZA. The latter is a mixture of opportunists and other renegades of the communist movement which is rapidly transforming into a social democratic party which can be used by capital, when necessary, in order to implement the anti-people policies of the "EU one way-street" which it openly supports.

The KKE swam against the tide, as it has done at other times over crucial political issues when it exposed, amongst other things, the character of the counterrevolution, of the overthrow of socialism and the imperialist character of the EU, when if fought against the EU, when it condemned the imperialist interventions and the pretexts that justified them etc.

The KKE has opposed the opportunistic welding together of the leaderships from above and insists on the social alliance between the working class, the urban and rural popular strata with the participation of women and youth. It rejects the cooperation for the formation of a "left government" to manage capitalism and insists on the formation of the socio-political alliance that will fight for the problems of the people, that will come into conflict with the monopolies and imperialism and will direct its struggle to the overthrow of the capitalist barbarity, the conquest of working class and people`s power.

We continue decisively to struggle in this direction, against the anti-people policy of the new government that consists of the liberal party of ND, the social democrat PASOK, the so-called new left party Democratic Left. Our party is implementing a plan for the development of the struggle through interventions for the basic problems of the people e.g. for the increase of salaries and pensions, for the defense of collective labour agreements, for the abolition of the anti-people taxation etc.

With these thoughts we wish success to your congress.

With comradely greetings

The CC of the KKE
