6 December 2016, Cape Town
The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Brian Bunting District (Cape Town Metro) condemns with in the strongest terms the brutal and discriminatory killing of Noluvo Swelindawo. It is understood that Ms Swelindawo was brutally killed on the basis of her sexual orientation. We call on broader society to recognise the fact that the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) community are protected by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, all citizens, regardless of their sexual preference must be accepted and live freely like any citizen in this country.
It is against this background that the vanguard Party calls on law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators of this heinous crime are apprehended and ultimately receive the harshest sentence. This barbaric act has no place in our communities and as the SACP, we want to re-iterate our previous campaigning call for the Reclaiming of our Communities from thugs, criminals and those that ignorantly discriminate against innocent people. It will only be through the rebuilding of grass-roots organs of people`s power such as; street and block committees and community driven neighbourhood watches that we will succeed in ridding our communities of this vile trend. The Brian Bunting District further asks community members to have the courage to speak out and report any information relating to the murder of Ms Swelindawo to police officials.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 at 15h00, the SACP in the Brian Bunting District will lead a mass delegation to deliver our message of solidarity and condolence to the Swelindano family. The meeting point is Driftsands car wash on the main road.
