Shoprite is rewarding Basson for raising profits by deepening the exploitation of hardworking workers and widening inequality. Shoprite workers are paid peanuts. The company must actually reverse that inconsiderate and selfish decision.
The employment conditions of workers who are at the bottom rungs of income inequality at Shoprite are as precarious as their general living conditions, a direct result of their deepening exploitation by Shoprite bosses headed by Basson as CEO. On the other hand, he and those other bosses are wallowing in luxury, raking in millions of rands home. Racists will only condemn such barbarity if Whitey were a Black person! They would be calling it corruption without any scrutiny, yet for Whitey they would call it money due for his so-called hard work - which is nothing but the expropriation workers` hard work.
The SACP is calling on all South African workers, Black and White, to fight against racism and capitalist exploitation. The immediate struggles to rollback astronomical executive pay and shareholder dividends extracted from the sweat and blood of workers and to ensure decent work including a living wage for all is an absolute necessity.
The SACP says:
"Workers, let us continue and intensify the struggle to build a non-racial society free from economic exploitation of one person or group by another!"
