The South African Communist Party (SACP) attended the appeal hearing proceedings today at the North Gauteng High Court against parole for Janusz Walus, the unrepentant and unremorseful convicted murderer who together with his accomplice Clive Derby-Lewis assassinated Comrade Chris Hani on 10 April 1993. The SACP and the late Chris Hani`s family joined the appeal by the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Advocate Michael Masutha.
Judgement was reserved for Thursday, 14 April. The SACP is however disappointed at the continued negative attitude displayed by Judge Nicoline Janse Van Niewenhuisen towards the legal team of the Minister as opposed to the cordial reception she accords Walus`s legal team. This time the attitude, which is worrying to the SACP, was combined with a display of irritation towards the appeal.
