15 September 2015
On 13 September 2015, the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Brian Bunting District (Cape Metro) held its District Council at Training Centre in Khayelitsha, which was attended by SACP branches and Alliance partners.
The District Council was dedicated to membership recruitment during this Membership Month in SACP calendar as well as to political education and ideological training as part of the SACP’s fundamentals for membership development. The growth of SACP membership and quality thereof is critical for heightening the working class struggle.
The District Council also provided an opportunity to prepare for our Red October Campaign which will focus on the transformation of the Financial Sector Campaign against reckless lenders, combating illegal garnishee orders, and abuse of social grant beneficiaries.
International Solidarity
We defeated the brutal apartheid regime through among others international solidarity. Our internationalism propels us to support the struggle of the oppressed people of the world. As the Council, we noted the visit of right-wing opposition leaders who went to Israel. Despite their media propaganda about the intentions of their visit as fact finding mission, their actual intentions are clear for all to see. They were there to seek funding in order to destabilise our country. Both the most reactionary Parties in Parliament the DA and EFF have not denied that they are funded by Nathan Kirsh. And thus Lakota, Holomisa, Mulder and Rev Meshoe were merely displaying the hunger of financial support from similar sources of blood money in Israel. It is therefore not surprising that their views, whilst disguised as not taking sides, are clearly biassed in favour of Israel.
We are not fooled by their desperate stunt and we will continue to mount campaigns against parasitic G4 Security and further support Boycott, Disinvest and Sanctions campaign against Israel. The same G4S is the same company that continue to be the main security company in the Israel borders against the people of Palestine. This morally reprehensible company must be ejected from our country.
GF Jooste Hospital
The closure of the GF Jooste Hospital was clear an attack to the national democratic revolution it is about universal and accessible quality health care. Closing a hospital which is accessible to the poor of the poorest remains and attack on poor communities by the DA.
Uniting the ANC towards victory in 2016 elections
The national democratic revolution remains the only programme which unites our alliance. There is no time to confine our unity on personalities who are at the leadership at a particular moment. Therefore going towards the 2016 local government elections the Alliance election machinery must be activated. The DA has dismally failed the people of Cape Town and the people in poor communities cannot be fooled any longer. The ANC must endorse grounded and credible candidates and not impose unpopular candidates. Our volunteers will intensify voter contact, registration and education in order to ensure overwhelming victory.
SASCO and PYA
The current confusion within the PYA in particular institutions of higher learning where structures of the PYA are in a beauty contest with each other is a major concern. SASCO should lead the PYA in the institution of higher learning those who happen to belong to other structures should contest hegemony within SASCO and not use other components of the PYA to contest.
CPUT fee increment
The SACP condemns the ill-conceived decision taken by the Council of the CPUT to increase fees by 10 percent. This is clearly an onslaught on the working class and against the principle of the freedom charter that: “the doors of learning and culture shall be open”.
We view the decision of the CPUT council as illogical and reckless, because an exorbitant increase does nothing but will further drive indebtedness the working class and shut the doors of learning for the children of the working class. This is aimed at entrenching exclusion of the poor majority.
Police killings and escalation of crime
We condemn ongoing police killings perpetrated by thugs. The rise in police killings and crime in this province is a result of DA policies particularly the discontinuation of Bambanani People Against crime. This crime prevention initiative founded by the ANC-led government was abandoned post-2009 elections which presented a serious setback as Bambanani heightened community involvement in the fight against crime but addressing poverty and unemployment. Nevertheless, as the SACP we must be at the forefront of community policing forums and street committees so that we can take control of our communities and streets.
Community Colleges and Training
The SACP congratulates the newly appointed council of community colleges in particular in the Western Cape. As these Community Colleges are targeting adult learners and youth particularly those who are out of the school and out of work, the working class that has never seen any doors of learning will benefit in the establishment of the community colleges.
Shack Fires over the Weekend
The council expressed concern about the shack fires which took place over the weekend in Burundi informal settlement, Lwandle in strand and Capricorn in Muizenberg. Sadly, these shack fires left eight people dead. The SACP conveys its deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. It can only be in Cape Town where so many people have perished in shack fires and an irresponsible DA government keeps mum. The DA must take responsibility for this unnecessary loss of life due to failure to resolve the housing crisis in Cape Town and Western Cape broadly.
