SACP congratulates Provincial Government for renaming Natalspruit Hospital after MK Martyr, Thelle Simon Mogoerane

20 August 2015

The SACP Gauteng Province congratulates and applauds the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) for renaming the Natalspruit Hospital in the City of Ekhuruleni after comrade Thelle Simon Mogoerane.

Premier David Makhura and the Executive Mayor of City of Ekhuruleni, Councillor Mondli Gungubele led proceedings today at the hospital to formally unveil the renaming process after comrade Thelle.

Comrade Thelle was one of the most militant, fearless and inspiring member of Mkhonto We Sizwe and a member of MK`s G5 unit. MK G5 unit was composed of five militant guerrillas who were the first to be deployed to launch revolutionary assaults on police stations as organs of Apartheid state`s brutality.

MK G5 unit successfully launched a series of revolutionary assaults on police stations of Moroka, Booysens, Orlando and Wonderboom police stations.

Comrade Thelle and two members of MK G5 were arrested by the apartheid state and were found guilty of Treason by the racist Judge Curlewis. They were subsequently sentenced to death by the Apartheid state as it deliberately continued to ignore principled plea for mercy by the United Nations Security Council`.

African National Congress (ANC) late President Reginald Oliver Tambo had well in advance appreciated the special place that history will accord to members of MK G5 unit, especially after the return of the liberation forces back into the country.

The SACP believes that by honouring comrade Thelle, and following the `Order of Mendi for Bravery in Gold` bestowed upon them by President Jacob Zuma, the Provincial Government has done our revolutionary people and working class really proud.

The SACP also appreciates the fact that the name of comrade Thelle was not imposed by the Provincial Government, but consistent with its character as an activist government, it accepted the people`s democratic and popular choice following open, popular and democratic participation.
