The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape has once again learnt of another heinous murder of a thirty-year-old female in Bredarsdorp, Overberg. Bredarsdorp has become synonymous with incidents of ruthless and heinous acts, specifically directed at young woman and girls.
The tragedy of the seventeen year-old Anene Booysen in 2013, the despicable acts against the five-year old Keyde Williams and this most recent occurrence of brutal murder, within the month South Africa celebrates woman, is of extreme concern to the SACP.
Whilst the SACP in the Province welcomes the prompt arrest of the suspected perpetrator, we are particularly concerned that this small town has become a paradise of brutality against young woman and girls. The previous arrests made in relation to these brutal acts have not stemmed the flow of similar violence against woman and children in Bredarsdorp.
Clearly linked to these cases of killing is a pattern that surely requires an immediate and new strategy to be formulated and implemented.
Whilst the SACP acknowledges the arrests that have been made we are extremely concerned of this continuing trend. We therefore call on the police to work with the community so that there can be an end to these heinous crimes against women and young girls in particular.
