SACP is deeply concerned about the fatal Orange Farm fire accident

12 August 2015

The South African Communist Party (SACP) Gauteng Province has learnt of a disastrous shack fire in Orange Farm, leading to the death of 5 children aged between the ages of 5 and 17.

We convey our deepest condolences to families and friends of the children who lost their lives in the tragedy.

We also commend the response by the ANC provincial government in Gauteng, including its support to the family and taking keen interest in the cause of the accident. Several government representatives and MEC`s have paid visits to the family.

The SACP finds it hard to separate this incident from the reality that the capitalist system is responsible for creating the conditions where 5 children can occupy a one room shack as their bedroom. It is this stubborn reality which the rich white male-led monopoly capitalist economic ownership championed by the DA stubbornly refuses to rectify.

We urge for more attention to be paid to the socio-economic conditions of our people in working class communities.
