SACP congratulates Popcru for a successful 8th National Congress

23 June 2013

The South African Communist Party (SACP) congratulates the Police, Prisons and Civil Rights Union (Poprcu) on its successful 8th National Congress held from 15 to 19 June 2015 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC, Durban.

The SACP reiterates the central importance of the unity of the workers and the trade union movement. The SACP commends Popcru for the sterling work it has undertaken in consolidating its own unity and defending that of the workers’ federation, COSATU.

The SACP congratulates the newly elected Popcru leadership and wishes them well in leading workers. We are looking forward to continuing efforts by Popcru in ensuring the success of the work to build and defend workers’ unity. The SACP pledges to work together with Popcru and other progressive forces in taking forward its absolutely essential and relevant 8th Congress theme, that of transforming the criminal justice cluster to advance the interests of the working class. This must also include escalating the fight against corruption on all fronts, and in both the public and private sectors, and accelerating the transformation of the judiciary.
