SACP Western Cape supports Good Hope Construction workers strike

21 May 2015

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape will join the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) as they march against the atrocious actions of Good Hope Construction to the Provincial Legislature today Thursday, 21 July 2015.

Despite the arrogance and threatening claims made by the Good Hope Construction, the SACP encourages NUM members to remain steadfast in their just struggle for better working conditions. The Party further stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the NUM in its refusal to be intimidated by hired gangsters and parasitic owners of Good Hope Construction.

The just demands of the resolute NUM members are as follows:

The SACP in the Province has further noted the inexcusable and reactionary steps taken by the tenderpreneurs who own the company. Instead of complying with general labour relations practices, they have opted to threaten workers with a lawsuit of R15 million. Most ludicrous of all is that Good Hope construction owes workers R1.4 million.

It is also of extreme concern that companies such as Good Hope Construction are determined to abuse the constitution. They use capital to openly undermine the Labour Relations Act in order to legitimise and deepen their exploitation of NUM members.

As the SACP, we reiterate our demand that the Western Cape Government must immediately terminate all contracts with Good Hope Construction, we will not allow tax payers money to be used to violently suppress the legitimate rights and demands of workers.
