The South African Communist Party has been shocked by the news of the sudden death of Comrade Sifiso Maphumulo, founding President of our ally Congress of South African Trade Unions` (COSATU`s) newly admitted affiliate Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (LIMUSA). Comrade Maphumulo died last night in a fatal car accident. The SACP expresses its message of sincere condolences to Comrade Maphumulo`s family, relatives, friends and community for the sore loss suffered. We also wish to send our message of solidarity to the workers at Toyota South Africa where Comrade Maphulo was working, to LIMUSA and COSATU for the irreplaceable loss and the setback it represents in all respects.
Comrade Maphumulo has served as the negotiator advancing and defending workers interests. He served as COSATU`s Isipingo Local Chairperson for a long time re-elected by workers because of the trust they had in him.
He died on a mission building workers unity and defending the home of metalworkers in COSATU. In honour of Comrade Maphumulo the SACP will continue to work with COSATU to ensure that this historic mission which he died for is carried on to its success.
The SACP says "Hamba Kahle Comrade Maphumulo"
