The South African Communist Party in the Western Cape supports the striking workers of the My Citi Bus.
As the Vanguard Party we fully support the My Citi workers who have been exploited by the middle man in the form of tenderpreneurs conniving with the City of Cape Town. We further believe their demands are genuine and need urgent resolution.
One of the workers says: "The management doesn`t care about us. We get up at 3am, we work up until 7pm and we only get paid for seven hours". This is a clear indication that Kidrogen a My Citi operating company is engaged in slavery practises with DA government in the Western Cape.
My Citi is the product of the public transport transformation and public funds have been spent not to exploit workers but to improve the lives of those who are operating as well as the safety and convenience of passengers.
As the SACP we are calling for the removal of the middleman/tenderpreneur so that the My Citi operators can be paid by the City and receive all the benefits they are entitled to.
