An insult to the people
25 September 2014
As the SACP, let us first congratulate the Province and its Provincial Government for holding a successful National Heritage celebration on behalf of all South Africans. This day is celebrated almost no differently from other public holidays. It is mainly black South Africans who commemorate and celebrate these revolutionary and cultural events. South African reconciliation appears to be one sided, coming primarily from the historically oppressed.
As we celebrated our diverse culture and heritage of our struggle for freedom, the majority of white South Africans believed that this was a "Braai Day".
This year`s Heritage Day was spoilt when we heard from radio interviews that there were intentions to have the house of former AWB leader, the ultra-racist neo-Nazi, Eugène Terre`Blanche declared a heritage site and that, the family, according to the news on radio, was also considering the view.
The SACP will never accept this action, whether imposed or done secretly. Those who proposed this insult and the family have quickly forgotten very basic and painful realities regarding the former AWB Afrikaner racist leader. This man epitomized Hitler and Nazism; many South Africans especially in the farming community of Ventersdorp and Tshing have been subjected to his racial brutality.
Many of his victims still live with scars and permanent disabilities through his actions and the SACP in the province each time is reminded of the dangerous and racial ideological stance this right-wing leader and his organisation stood for, we also remember each day that this right-wing leader had never approved or envisaged any peaceful co-existence between the people of his race and any other race. Many white people including Afrikaners, even some with racist attitudes, were ashamed of and never associated with this extreme right-wing racial ideology.
Anyone who suggests that the house or anything associated with Terre`Blanche should be made part of our national heritage is insulting our revolutionary martyrs and beliefs and heritage.
Some elitist groupings within our movement are making decisions that are alienating the majority that vote consistently for ANC. The idea, wrong in the extreme, to make Terre`Blanche our national hero must be rejected with contempt.
Should this idea be further promoted the SACP will mobilise against it!
