SACP Sparks Ramagoma District Executive Committee

31 August 2014

The District Executive Committee (DEC) of the South African Communist Party, Sparks Ramagoma District (Sekhukhune) condemns the reckless and unsecured lending practices that have indebted our communities, and calls of the regulatory institutions the Reserve Bank of South Africa and National Treasury to attend to this crisis-causing activity.

Most people in our communities which are impoverished are bottlenecked by the persisting unscrupulous lenders and chain stores through debt. The unemployed and pensioners are lured to make loans that have high interests which serve to ruin them further. This worsens the conditions of poverty and inequality. The DEC has assigned a Special Task Team to re-look at our local Financial Sectior Transformation Campaign imperatives with strong emphasis on mass based programme of action focusing on the banks, micorlenders - Dikamela - which once person climbs it is difficult to disembark, and chain stores.

In defence of our democratic revolution!

The DEC has noted with dismay of the recent shenanigans by a tiny minority of ill-disciplined rascals identifying themselves as the EFF. This behaviour poses a threat to our democracy no matter how small it has started and remains as such. The disruption of Parliamentary proceedings must be condemned in strongest terms possible as an act to undermine our democracy. We reaffirm the call by our Party Central Committee for this proto-Fascist behaviour to be nipped in the bud and for the controllers behind it to be exposed.

The DEC has also noted that the manner in which Advocate Thuli Madonsela handles some of the affairs in the name of the Office of the Public Protector leaves much to be desired. Our Central Committee correctly observed that Madondela has a tendency of over-reaching her wings. The Office of the Public Protector is one of the institutions established to support democracy in terms of Chapter 9 of our Constitution. Rather than an unaccountable island, the Office of the Public Protector is accountable to Parliament has to respect the role and functions of Parliament as vested upon it by the Constitution.

The DEC has noted some coordinated populism that seeks to coalesce around the Public Protector. This populism is, among others, composed of elements who are publicly known of abuse of offices and power and who are driven by private personal ambitions as well as those who would stop at nothing to collaborate with and work for regime change agendas. Our message to these populist wedge drivers is: You will fail with distinction.
