Be transparent to the people, Resolve problems facing Amathole Municipality

1 August 2014

The SACP in the Ncumisa Kondlo District, Amathole, Eastern Cape notes with great concern reports that the African National Congress (ANC) in the region has instructed some councilors to resign.

We are of the firm view that these actions will not resolve the deep seated challenges within the municipalities. The challenges faced by the municipality cannot be attributed to an individual, but the entire leadership collective. We believe that the reasons behind these actions should be shared with the people of Amathole, and not only be known to the ANC regional leadership.

The action of removing individuals as reported and confirmed by both regional and provincial leadership of the ANC may have far reaching consequences, which includes hampering delivery of basic services to the people.

The SACP has called for a shared Alliance approach in resolving challenges within the municipality. We believe the same should be done in locals municipalities within Amathole. The consequences of any action that is taken in these institutions will not only be the problem of the ANC, but the entire alliance as we move towards the 2016 local government elections and beyond.

The SACP believes that the actions we take as leadership should not be informed by anything else except improving service to the people. It is important for all leaders to put people at the heart of the decisions we make and private personal interests at the back seat.

The SACP commits to work tirelessly with all progressive organs of the people to ensure that local government challenges are resolved and service to the people is set on a new pedestal.
