The South African Communist Party wishes to convey condolences to the families and friends of all those who have perished both as a result of a water born disease in Bloemhof and the fatal Rooigrond accident.
The SACP is deeply concerned about the state of water and sanitation in and around the Lekwa Teemane municipality. At the same time, we commend the speedy intervention by the North West government in this regard. We therefore believe that the investigations currently underway to establish the nature of the problem will help us find a sustainable solution to prevent the reoccurrence in future.
We further reiterate the long standing position of the SACP on the state of public roads. The state of public roads in the province require urgent attention, in particular the R501 which is the main entrance into the capital of the province. However, the current administration gives us hope that our roads will be given the required attention. At the same time, we call upon all road users to respect the rules of the road and to drive defensively. One death is too many.
