11 March 2014
The South African Communist Party in the Moses Mabhida Province (KZN) has welcomed the budget as tabled by Treasury MEC Ina Cronje in Pietermaritzburg today, Tuesday, 11 March.
`The budget complemented the State of the Province Address delivered by Premier Senzo Mchunu last week`, said SACP Provincial Secretary comrade Themba Mthembu. `We fully support the budget especially its emphasis on the priorities identified by this administration in need of urgent attention such education, rural development, fight against crime and corruption, job creation and improved access to quality healthcare`, said Mthembu.
He added that the focus on massive infrastructure development should also be applauded but warned the tenderpreneurs who are already lining their pockets to score major government contracts while they deliver shoddy work.
`As the SACP in KwaZulu-Natal we will be watching with eagle eyes how the provincial government spends on infrastructure development projects because we don`t want greedy individuals who are simply interested in enriching themselves while leaving our desperate communities poorer`, said Mthembu.
Mthembu said the budget was a clear commitment of the ANC led government to deliver on its manifesto and urged people of South Africa and KwaZulu-Natal to give the ANC an overwhelming mandate so that it will deliver what it has committed to and has already budgeted for.
