Consultants stand to benefit from the City of Cape Town`s change of logo, not communities

5 March 2014

`Everything is and is not`, Vladimir Lenin. This can`t be better explained following the imprudent decision taken by the City of Cape Town to change its Logo.

Many questions have been asked about the rationale behind changing of the City of Cape Town logo and Pay-Offline (slogan). At whose expense and who stands to benefit by changing a logo? Equally important in unmasking the real reasons is the timing of this process! The primary motivation is to swindle public funds through Consultants in order to channel funds to DA for electioneering purposes.

As the SACP in the Brian Bunting District, we have noticed a pattern of expenditure amounting to millions of rands directed to advertising and public relations propaganda instead of spending on basic services and infrastructure towards changing the conditions of the downtrodden. The beneficiaries of these contracts are the same cronies of the DA that benefitted from the provincial government. This is a clear case of fraud and corruption by the DA administration to salvage its faltering election campaign.

For the City to spend 8 million rand on a logo whilst the people of Atlantis, Khayelitsha, Mitchell`s Plain in particular are yearning for better sanitation, housing and jobs is nothing but scandalous and absolutely inconsiderate. The prioritisation of a logo is a clear indictment to the DA and further confirmation that DA is engaged on boosting the corporate image of the city through its capitalist handlers.

This a clear waste of public funds and clear indications that De Lille never related to the City Slogan "This city works for you". Rather the DA prefers its long fallacious Slogan" Better Together", suggesting that only the minority which the city has been prioritising best suited to be serve.

Furthermore the decision to change the logo has not been canvassed with the citizens of Cape Town. This is a clear demonstration of how the DA undermines democracy and good governance.

As the SACP in the Brian Bunting District we call upon the people of the City of Cape Town to reject the logo which has been designed without their knowledge. There is nothing to benefit from this. Only De Lille and her corrupt DA and capitalist friends will benefit.
