The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Northern Cape Province is disturbed by the latest derailments of our revolutionary efforts in advancing quality, decent and affordable health care.
The SACP fully supports the plight of student nurses and believes issues affecting them can only be handled by the ANC led Alliance Government.
We are calling upon the Department of Health in the Province to make urgent interventions and ensure that our National Health Insurance (NHI) Programme is not hampered. We believe that we need to capacitate as many health care practitioners as possible who in the main will roll up their sleeves to ensure that the NHI is implemented without any hindrances within the next five years.
The 2014 ANC Manifesto is clear on the call that Central Hospitals are national assets and as integral part of universities and institutions of health training therefore they should be the most primary training platforms for health professionals.
The Department of Health in the Province should priorities and revitalize, equipping and resourcing Henrietta Stockdale College. The absence of a nursing college in our Province will not only derail our ANC led government NHI programme, but will seriously reverse our democratic gains since 1994.
The SACP will defend the history of the Henrietta Stockdale College and pursue all avenues to ensure that this legendary monumental heritage in our province finds resonance with generations to come. Primary health care is a critical component in the livelihood of the working class and the poor, therefore our health care institutions forms an integral part to the our programme of decent, quality and affordable health service.
We believe as the SACP that an amicably solution will be reached, and that this will disappoint those who want to render the ANC-led government in effective.
