The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape Province postponed the planned march, scheduled for 7 March 2014, to the Premier`s residence in Leeuwenhof, until further notice.
Our proposed march was in the main a mass-based demonstration against the gross negligence of the provision of basic services by the Provincial and City of Cape Town administrations which are led by the DA ("Democratic Alliance"). The march was partly a response to the reactionary protest action which the DA intended to Luthuli House in Johannesburg. The Party views DA`s attempted "fight to Luthuli House" as an election gimmick and an act of desperation that cannot be left unattended.
The Party will however be monitoring the faltering attempts of the DA to march to ANC`s headquarters. Should there be a second attempt, the SACP will again stand in defence of the ANC.
As the SACP in the province, we urge all our members to join the ANC`s march on Wednesday, 5 February 2014.
