The SACP in the Brian Bunting District supports the strike by the workers of NUMSA within the motor industry.
As the SACP we believe that the demands by NUMSA for a living wage are genuine and call upon employers in the motor industry to comply with the demands by workers.
The SACP further condemns the use of foreign nationals by employers in the industry as alternatives whilst the petrol attendants are on strike.
The utilization of foreign nationals is a projection of the worst behavior by the greedy capitalists who are, in the main, employers particularly in the petrol filling stations.
This unfortunate behavior of employers who are exploiting foreign nationals as alternatives whilst most of the employees in the fuel filling stations are on strike undermines the latter and spirit of our labour relations acts.
And this has a potential to delay the current negotiations and further fuel xenophobic attacks in the workplace and in our communities. This in essence undermines and reverses the gains of workers and reflects the well-known parasitic behavior by employers informed by their profit maximization logic.
The rational for employers to opt for foreign nations it`s because they are not unionized therefore they are easily used as cheap labour; they are vulnerable to exploitation and arbitrary conducts.
As SACP we still hold our view that the 2008 xenophobic attacks were caused by the capitalist greed and selfish accumulation in the main. This behavior of doing whatever they can to exploit the workers for their profit maximization is unbecoming and should be condemned with the contempt it deserves.
We appeal to the workers and the poor to unite and refuse to be divided on the bases of nationality by the greedy capitalists the owners of petrol filling station.
