28 May 2013
The SACP in Limpopo held its 1st Provincial Council on the 26th of May 2013 at Sefateng Community Hall, Atok at Pandelani Ramagoma district. We received messages of support from the YCLSA, COSATU, NUM branch in Atok and CONTRALESA. This Provincial Council was held in Atok, Sekhukhuneland as a way of demonstrating our support to the NUM which is under attack from reactionary unions such as GIWUSA and AMCU. As the Party we are aware that the attack on the NUM is not aimed at this giant union per se, but it is an attack against the entire liberation movement!
The Provincial Council received the political and organizational reports which were focusing more on the state of our districts in line with the theme of the Council-`2013:Year of the district`. The Council reflected on the following areas that requires urgent attention by the movement, i.e the political situation in the province, the Limpopo Provincial Administration and the forthcoming general elections.
In analyzing the political environment in the province, the Provincial Council has reaffirmed the PEC position to welcome the ANC NEC decision of disbanding the ANC PEC as part of strengthening the organization. This is the only organization which is carrying the aspirations of the poor masses as the ruling part in this country. Accordingly, the Party has committed itself to support the new ANC PTT and palpable progress has been registered in improving the working relationship between the ANC and the SACP since the NEC intervention.
As the Party we wish to support the new PTT in implementing the ANC RGC resolutions of disbanding RECs which were dividing the movement in the province in order to deal root out factionalism in the ANC. The Provincial Council believes that there is no better moment than now to strengthen the alliance in the province in preparation for bigger battles ahead.
The Provincial Council also noted with concern the challenges in COSATU nationally and we believe that the CEC meeting that is taking place this week will resolve those challenges in favour of the working class because a divided COSATU will only serve to strengthen the hand of the capitalist class in this country.
Whilst welcoming the developments in the ANC, the Provincial Council reaffirmed the 6th Provincial Congress resolution on the call for the removal of Mr Charlie Mathale as the Premier of this province. The Party believes that the disbandment of the ANC PEC that leaves Mathale in charge of the state will be meaningless because the problems that bedeviled the ANC in the province came as result of his administration allowing corruption to flourish.
Due to our relentless fight against corruption in the province, the `New Tendency` was defeated in the province, more especially after the ANC 52nd National Congress. But we must warn our alliance partner, the ANC, that unless it acts quickly against Mathale ,the `New Tendency` will regain its lost ground through manipulating tenders and dispensing patronage amongst the unsuspecting youth as they did in the build-up to Mangaung!
Our call is also linked to the 2014 general elections preparations since it will be very difficult to convince the electorate to vote for the ANC when the man who single-handedly presided over a corrupt administration is still the head of government! The Provincial Council has finally resolved in honour of our longest serving General Secretary, comrade Moses Kotane to support the ANC through releasing volunteers who will be on the ground working for the ANC from the ID campaign right up to the decisive victory in the elections last year.
The Party will spare no effort in reclaiming Limpopo`s historic role as the home of the ANC! This is the home of many outstanding leaders of our movement who distinguished themselves during the struggle for liberation and the majority of them have since passed on. In their memory the Provincial Council resolved that the SACP will do everything in its power to ensure that the ANC gets more than two-thirds majority in the forthcoming elections!
