The SACP has received with shock and sadness the news of the passing away of the popular cameraman, Mr. Alf Khumalo.
His contribution to journalism has been remarkable and he used the camera to capture important and historic moments in our struggle for national liberation and reconstruction; indeed significant moments that tell the South African story. At each important epoch of confrontation with the barbaric apartheid regime we all could rely on his pictures to expose the brutality of the regime and to tell the rest of the world of the struggles of our people.
When he retired, Bra Alf as he was affectionately known, sought to contribute to the community of Soweto by opening a museum and running a photography academy in order to produce more elegant lensmen and lenswomen of his calibre. The SACP calls on the MICT SETA, government and the city of Johannesburg to inherit the museum and the academy and make them a success in memory of Bra Alf
