The SACP joins millions of South Africans in expressing its condolences to the family, friends, relatives and colleagues of the late Bafana Bafana Assistant Coach, Thomas Madigage. His sudden passing away was indeed a shock to us and many other soccer followers in our country.
This sad moment reminds us once more of the urgency to deepen our campaign of keeping our roads safe. This underlines the urgency of installing proper fencing especially in areas where there is livestock, in oder to save human lives and protect such livestock.
Madigage will always be remembered for his entertaining soccer skills, as he was indeed, in his playing days, a very gifted soccer player. He will also be remembered for having led an international soccer career with integrity, discipline and commitment to serve his country and not being driven by the short termism of the love of money. Most of our young sportspersons and football players can learn a lot from his exemplary conduct. His commitment to plough back to the community must not be lost. We call on SAFA to take forward the plans for the soccer academy in Sekhukhune in honour of Thomas Madigage.
The task to produce more brilliant soccer players of the caliber of Thomas Madigae must be undertaken in his honour and memory. In order to achieve this the SACP, once more, urges SAFA and professional socccer teams to invest more in amateur and developmental programmes, so that our country can produce many more Madigages.
