27 June 2011
The communist party in Durban West District had its congress at Elangeni FET College on 25 and 26 June 2011.
A number of progressive resolutions were taken after an immense deliberations, part of these were the renaming of our district and defending our organization. The congress took a decision to rename Durban West district after the SACP Central Committee member Eric `Stalin` Mtshali, a stalwart of the working class struggle who has mentored and tutored many leaders of the alliance in the province.
Congress also discussed with a very serious concern the storming of the SACP office which happened last week Friday by a group of few individuals, about twenty people. Branches of the SACP felt that this incident was unfortunate and uncalled for. The SACP as a working class organization subscribe to the principle of participatory democracy which is culture of internal vibrant engagement, and the democratic centralism that after robust engagement in appropriate structures decisions taken have to be respected. Anyone calling himself a party member would know this tradition of progressive working class formations. Anything beyond this is what we call anarchy.
The serious allegations that our provincial secretary was an informer could be viewed as an attempt to assassinate his character and an insult to the SACP. Building up to previous Provincial and National congresses of the SACP such allegations were made and could not be proven. Our congress was concerned that always when we go to congresses there are tendencies which are foreign in our organizations. The branches and district leadership believe and support the leadership collective of the SACP in the province. Comrades should be sober, learn, understand and respect the democratic rights of others.
