The SACP congratulate the two DJ’s, DJ Tira and DJ Tungero, who have withdrawn from performing at the music concert organized by King Mswati’s son.
Whilst the majority of people in Swaziland are victims of high unemployment rate, grinding poverty and many other societal challenges his son organizes a major birthday bash for himself, supposedly using public resources. In the meantime civil servants have not been paid and the country is on the brink of economic collapse.
The SACP calls on South African artists who have not as yet withdrawn from the event to do so as a matter of urgency. We must always remember the solidarity pledged with us as a South African people by artists of the world and Africa particularly in our struggle against apartheid. The toiling and suffering masses of Swaziland who are yearning for democracy now need our support.
Issued by the SACP.
