SACP incensed by the Bridgestone Lockout

6 April 2011

The SACP has noted the ongoing impasse between workers organised by NUMSA and Bridgestone wherein the company has locked out close to 1200 employees.

As the SACP we view the actions by the company as nothing else but at attack on workers’ rights and signals part and parcel of an offensive against trade unions and the workers and the poor by the big bosses. The attitude of the company towards collective bargaining processes shows how when it suits them the capitalist can easily break ranks in order to continue exploiting workers.

The SACP fully supports the demands of NUMSA in their quest to secure equitable treatment for red-circled employees employed by Bridgestone. The use of replacement labour during this lock-out which is not responding to any strike is further proof of the intransigent nature of Bridgestone.

The SACP calls on all workers in the strike to express their solidarity with the workers at Bridgestone in order to secure their own interest. Capitalism is a barbaric system and must be fought with all our energies.
