The South African Communist Party condemns the Sudanese political authorities´ in the North and their growing anti communist and anti-worker offensive, a major feature of its overall policy of autocracy.
The Secretary General of the SCP Comrade Mohamed Ibrahim Nugud was detained today and released after few hours alongside Comrade ABd Alfatah Rufai, a trade unionist on their way to a meeting.
We condemn their arrest and call for civil and democratic rights of all Sudanese to be restored. The release of all political prisoners, putting an end to all state sponsored killings, allowing basic people and worker freedoms, constitute important measures for popular re-orientation of social and political life in Sudan, along the wishes of the people. We fully support their struggles to make a break with the reactionary policy of Sudanese dictatorship.
We call on all South Africans to forge strong solidarity with the people of Sudan in their demand for social, economic and political justice.
