SACP welcomes the news on the discharge from hospital of Isithwalandwe Comrade Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

28 January 2011

The South African Communist Party (SACP) welcomes the pronouncement by the Acting President of the Republic Comrade Kgalema Motlanthe and the SANDF medical doctors on the discharge from Milpark Hospital of Isithwalandwe Comrade Nelson Mandela, the great revolutionary of our glorious movement, and the admired leader of our resilient nation.

We would like to thank the SANDF medical staff under the leadership of Surgeon-General, Lieutenant-General Vejaynand Ramlakan and Milpark hospital for the sterling work done in the past two days to ensure that all the speculators about the condition of our former President are proven wrong. Tonight he will spend the evening in his house with his family.

It is also important to thank all the people of South Africa and the World for the support given to the family and friends and we appeal that such support will indeed make our icon stronger.

We call upon the media to report correctly on such matters and not create unnecessary panic to the public, and place the family to undue pressure.

Comrade Madiba is alive and strong, we are preparing to celebrate with him his 93rd birthday and our 90th Anniversary as the SACP in July this year.

On-behalf of our members we wish him speedy recovery and many more years of good health.
