SACP statement on corruption investigation

15 August 2010

The SACP welcomes the announcement by the Presidency to mandate the Specical Investigations Unit (SIU) to investigate alleged and suspected incidents of corruption, maladministration and mismanagement in various national and provincial government departments and entities.

This announcement bodes well for the SACP-led campaign against corruption. This sends exactly the right message that indeed our ANC-led alliance and government is indeed serious in its commitment to fight corruption.

We hope that this investigation will assist us to get to the bottom of what we believe as the SACP is a flawed tendering system that requires drastic improvements in order to empower communities, develop our economy, create jobs and ensure that a swift end is put to the swindling of funds meant for the poor by a corrupt few.

Now is the time for all of our people to re-double their efforts to accelerate the implementation of government`s five priorities, i.e. education, health, fighting crime and corruption, rural development and creation of decent work.
