SACP commemorates its 89th anniversary in The North West

28 July 2010

The SACP will mark its 89th Anniversary this year with a commemorative Rally to be held in Impala Mine Stadium, Rustenburg, North West Province.

Throughout all these 89 years we have, with total dedication, devoted all our energies to the struggle for national liberation and socialism. We have also been a dependable ally of the ANC and the progressive trade union movement in our country.

We celebrate 89 years of a commitment to non racialism, the struggle for democracy and against women oppression. We celebrate a legacy of a party that has pioneered progressive trade unionism and progressive journalism.

For the past 89 years it was Communist Party activists, like Dora Tamana, who ran cooperatives in informal settlements in the 1940s and 50s. And it is Communists who have always been numbered among the outstanding martyrs of the struggle - Johannes Nkosi, Vuyisile Mini, Alpheus Maliba, Basil February, Cde Lwarence Phokanoka, Ahmed Timol, Matthew Goniwe, Chris Hani, and many more.

It is Communist Party activist who have been in the forefront of the “HHH” Campaign, the struggle to transform the financial sector, the land campaign, the Know and Act in Your Neighbourhood Campaign. Today we celebrate a party that has grown from strength to strength and is the second largest political organisation in the country, second only to our ally the ANC.
