The South African Communist Party (SACP) joins the people of Cuba and the world Communist movement in mourning the untimely death of Cde Juan Almedia Bosque, over the weekend.
Cde Almedia Bosque was amongst the leading figures of the July 26 movement that overthrew the United States of America (US) sponsored Batista-dictatorship regime in January 1959. His untimely departure is taking place in the midst of the 50th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban revolution and a ravaging global capitalist crisis.
The people of Cuba and the generation of Cde Almedia played a key and strategic role in the liberation of our country and our neighboring states. Their resilience and sacrifices to the struggle of the oppressed people of the world without any material expectations is a pillar of our bond and friendship with the Cubans to continue popular anti-imperialist and anti-colonial struggles.
His passing on will propel us to mobilize the poor of the world to overthrow the immoral and inhumane capitalist system. To the people of Cuba, Cde Almedia Bosque has joined the immortal living ideas of freedom, peace, justice and socialism. His physical absence will not deter the people of Cuba in defending their socialist path and sovereignty amidst economic sanctions imposed on them by the imperialist US Empire.
We call on all democratic forces of the world to demand justice through the unconditional release of the Cuban five incarcerated in American jails all for their fight against terrorism and equally the uplifting of the atrocious economic blockade and other repressive measures against Cuba. This will be a great to the revolutionary contribution in honour of Comrade Almeida,-a great patriot and communist.
