The SACP calls on parliament to swiftly act to restore the state of good governance and stability at the public broadcaster within the framework of the Broadcasting Act as amended.
The public and various stakeholders cannot sustain a moment of vacillation and inaction on the SABC anymore. For many years we have allowed the public broadcaster to go down the drain. It is time now to act with conviction! The time is now for the obstinate four to resign and in the public interest allow the Interim board to lead the recovery plan of the SABC.
The SACP calls on the parliamentary portfolio committee to take the necessary measures at its meeting tomorrow to disband the board and initiate a process of public participation for the nomination of the interim board, should the four do the unusual and not resign in the next few hours. Furthermore, parliament must institute an enquiry into the state of the broadcaster to enable us to get to the bottom of the rot at the SABC.
