SACP welcomes the Johannesburg High Court ruling

31 April 2008

The SACP welcomes today’s ruling by the Johannesburg High Court that the installation of prepaid water meters by the City of Johannesburg is unconstitutional.

This ruling is very significant to the extent that it reaffirms that the rendering basic service to our people remains a basic right and not a commodity. It is our view that the fundamental basis of the ruling should be applied to all basic needs of our people including health, education and electricity.
