SACP Eastern Cape activities - April/May 2007

As part of celebrating the life and times of our late General Secretary, comrade Chris Hani, the district is embarking in a series of activities that will culminate in a protest march to demand the once off amnesty for workers and the poor and the re-opening of investigation into the assassination of comrade Hani.

As part of mobilization towards this march, last weekend we convened meetings in all 8 municipal areas constituting our district to ready our structures for this rolling mass action. This week is marked by briefing sessions with alliance components and MDM structures.

This is part of our district contribution to the coming ANC policy conference and our own 12th congress. We will hold blitz in taxi ranks and train stations, door to door, people’s assemblies to popularize the Freedom Charter and convene a District Policy Dialogue. With these activities we are determined to ensure that the loudest noise in South Africa is about the Freedom Charter and how the current accumulation path continues to fail the workers and poor. We will distribute copies of the charter and read the closes of the charter in 8 people’s assembles in the district. See details below:

Blitz and door to door

DEC deployees and all BECs to hold blitz in public places like taxi ranks, train stations and door to door.

5 -6 May 2007

DEC meeting

DEC to hold a special DEC meeting for assessment and consolidation.

7 – 11 May 2007

People’s Assemble

Deployees and BECs to convene peoples assembles in each sub district to popularize the Freedom Charter.

12 – 13 May 2007

Protest March

DEC to organize a district protest march to demand a once off amnesty for workers and the poor. The March is to be held in East London, from North END Stadium to ABSA Oxford Street.

19 May 2007

Policy Dialogue

DEC to convene a Policy Dialogue as part of our contribution to the ANC policy conference and preparation for our 12th Congress. The dialog will be held in Butterworth.
