Statement on the SACP National Policy Dialogue

20 February 2007

The SACP is having a major National Policy Dialogue which will be attended by about 180 delegates, drawn from all the nine provinces, from the 22 – 23rd February 2007.

These delegates will be drawn from members of the Central Committee, Provincial Chairpersons and Secretaries, two additional members drawn from each of the nine Provincial Executive Committees, Provincial Gender Convenors, SACP National and Provincial Organisers, all the 53 SACP District Secretaries, YCL representatives, Alliance partners and various civil society organisations.

The aim of the National Policy Dialogue is to discuss some of the key policy issues as part of preparations for the 12th Congress of the SACP and also to assist the SACP to engage effectively in the forthcoming ANC Policy Conference in June 2007.

Much as the SACP is interested in the whole range of key policy positions, we have decided to prioritise the following six key areas:

  1. Discussions of the ANC’s draft strategy and tactics documents as part of developing the SACP’s own strategy and tactics in the current period.
  2. Engagement with emerging government policy perspectives on the Industrial Strategy.
  3. Gender and Social Development.
  4. Development of a National Co-operative strategy.
  5. An in depth analysis of the Land and Agrarian reform process.
  6. Policies to advance our struggle for the transformation of the financial sector.

One of the other aims of our National Policy Dialogue is to reflect and refine our policy perspectives as they emerge from the many campaigns that the SACP has undertaken in the recent period.

The National Policy Dialogue will be officially opened by the General Secretary of the SACP, Cde Blade Nzimande, whose address will focus on the major policy challenges facing the SACP, Alliance and Government.

Members of the press are invited to attend the General Secretary’s address at 09H00 to 10H00 on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at Willow Park Conference Centre, Kempton Park.

The National Policy Dialogue will be followed by the first regular meeting of the SACP Central Committee to be held at the same venue on the 24th -25 February 2007. The main items for discussions at the Central Committee will be, preparations for the 12th Congress, the State of the organisation and the Central Committee Commission progress report on the SACP and State Power.

Issued by the SACP.
