07 December 2006
1. SACP´s Dr Yusuf Dadoo District, in the West Rand, will be marching to West Rand District Municipality (Randfontein) and to Metrorail (Randfontein) to demand safe, affordable and accessible public transport. This is to take forward this year´s Red October Campaign, which is dedicated on improving public transport in South Africa.
Majority of the people of West Rand depend on public transport to go to work and they are always victims of poor public transport. Many have lost their jobs because of the poor public transport system.
2. On the very same day we will also be marching to ABSA bank to demand end to unfair evictions. Many poor, particularly in Mohlakeng, are victims of insensitive banks like ABSA. Almost everyday people are evicted from their houses without even following proper procedures. We have made several calls to the banks for a summit where we would talk about such issues, but ABSA continues to terrorise the people. This bank is unethical in its operations and deserves to be taught a lesson.
People live like animals because of fearing ABSA and its ruthless agents, who collaborate with corrupt elements in the township.
The march will be taking place on Saturday, 09 December 2006, starts at Mohlakeng Taxi Rank (4 Square) at 09h00 and proceed to Randfontein to deliver memorandum to ABSA, WRDM and Metrorail.
