The South African Communist Party (SACP) wishes to strongly condemn statements by a fringe group at yesterday’s Transvaal Agricultural Union Conference, threatening to take up armed struggle against land reform.
The SACP regards these threats as nothing but an attempt to stall the much needed land and agrarian transformation in our country. To talk of taking up arms is a very serious but equally very irresponsible statement to make.
We therefore urge the South African Police Service to investigate these threats and take appropriate action as a matter of urgency. We also call upon TAU to strongly condemn such statements.
The SACP remains firmly committed to the resolutions and processes decided upon at the land summit. Nothing will stand on the way of land and agrarian transformation to right the wrongs of the past and to achieve the much-needed redistribution of land to fight poverty and create employment. We call upon all the parties to commit to the processes agreed to at the land summit, and effectively isolate those who still dream of taking our country into its dark past.
The SACP will continue to mobilise the landless farmworkers and rural masses to achieve redistribution of land, by intensifying the building of People’s Land Committee throughout the length and breadth of our countryside. We call on our people not to be fazed by this irresponsible fringe of South African society.
