SACP Response to “Letter from the President”

Friday, August 26, 2005

The SACP notes the above mentioned letter published in ANC today of the 26 August 2005. As the SACP we can confirm that this letter was indeed read to the recent 10 aside Alliance meeting, unfortunately at around midnight.

As the SACP we are responding reluctantly to this letter as we were unfortunately not aware nor informed that this letter was going to be made public. Our understanding, in line with Alliance protocols, was that it was one of the internal documents of the Alliance for further consideration.

The collective discussion and agreement for that 10 aside was that all issues that were tabled will be taken forward through a further 10 aside meeting in the coming weeks, it is this process of collective discussion and debate through 10 aside meetings that the Alliance meeting agreed to as the most appropriate way to deal with matters relating to the Deputy President of the ANC comrade Jacob Zuma, and other related political matters.

To this end the Alliance 10 aside decided, in its wisdom, that the letter from the President will be discussed in future 10 aside meeting as one of the many other documents emanating from, inter-alia, the SACP Special National Congress, the ANC NGC and COSATU CC Meeting.

The SACP will therefore engage with this letter through the above processes.
