The South African Communist is holding its 3rd Central Committee (CC) Plenary Session this coming weekend. This Central Committee is taking place in the wake of some important developments in our country, the region and globally.
The Central Committee will focus on some of these developments. On the domestic front the CC will undertake a comprehensive evaluation of the recently held ANC NGC, and the challenges arising from the deliberations and resolutions of that gathering.
Our Central Committee meeting is also taking place in the midst of intensifying and militant struggles by organized workers in virtually all the key sectors of our economy. Our approach to the current strikes is that they are a manifestation of deeper problems, including the growing gap between the rich and the poor, as well as the manifest failure of the capitalist market to address even some of the most basic needs of the workers and the poor of our country. The Central Committee will seek to undertake a comprehensive analysis of current working class struggles and methods to harness them towards a broader objective of transforming the accumulation regime underway in our country.
This weekend’s CC will also receive progress report on the implementation of the resolutions of our Special National Congress held in April this year. To this end the CC will discuss the modalities of setting up the CC Commission as per the resolution of the Special National Congress, so that this Commission can start its work in earnest.
The CC will also be evaluating the recently held National Land Summit and map a way forward on post-summit processes, and a strategy for further mobilization of the landless. We will also be discussing our strategy and approach towards the forthcoming local government elections, including SACP mobilization for an overwhelming ANC victory.
Another important matter for discussion will be our theme and programme for the 2005 Red October Campaign, as a basis to take forward all our other campaigns. CC will also discuss a strategy to escalate our campaigns on a credit amnesty by the Credit Bureaux and the demand for a new model for financing low-cost housing.
On the international front, the CC will discuss the latest developments on Zimbabwe, as well as undertake an evaluation of the recently held Gleneagles G8 Summit.
