The Young Communist League of South Africa will launch the ?Ufasimba Detachment? tomorrow as part of its recognition of International Children? s Day and in Memory of Nkosi Johnson. This launch is also part of the overall YCL programme for the Youth Month, which will be unveiled in Johannesburg, Workers Library on Sunday 05 June 2005.
The ?Ufasimba Detachment? will comprise and be led by young people from all walks of life, who will volunteer to do community service to home-based care centres responsible for HIV/AIDS orphans and widows.
?Ufasimba Detachment? is named after Shaka?s youthful regiment (known as Ufasimba), which used to conquer nations and tribes without any instruction or order.
The role of this detachment, however, will be to work towards building the nation and conquer poverty and care for the victims of a gruesome illness that has attacked humanity, HIV/AIDS.
The detachment will provide services to identified home-based care centres in the form of gardening, cleaning, cooking, and painting and even, were possible, building in support and recognition of this centres.
The YCL will approach the National Youth Commission and the Umsobomvu Youth Fund to support the work of the detachment, and try to expand to other provinces outside Gauteng.
We believe that as part of fighting the ?Battle of Ideas? in society, and in ensuring that young people contributes into working for the needy and unable, we should mobilise youth to do this. We are contributing into building a caring nation.
The detachment will be working in conjunction with Nkosi?s Haven, and as part of remembering Nkosi Johnson, will be doing its first cleaning and care service tomorrow at Nkosi? s Haven, Berea starting at 09h00.
A short press briefing will follow at 12h00 at the venue.
