Jeremy Cronin to Open out in Africa Gay & Lesbian Film Festival in Solidarity with Zimbabwe

Later today, the Deputy General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Jeremy Cronin, will be the guest speaker to open the 11th South African Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in Cape Town.

The event will be held as follows: Date - Thursday 31st March 2005 Time - 7.30pm Venue - Ster-Kinekor Theatre, Cavendish Square, Claremont, Cape Town

Cronin will focus his message on the need for solidarity of all South Africans with the people of Zimbabwe and the need for lesbian and gay voices to speak out out and be active in many struggles for democracy, equality and social and economic justice in South Africa and Southern Africa as a whole. He will also focus on the role of political parties to foster the spirit of the South African constitution which promotes equality and non-discrimination including on the grounds of sexual orientation.

The SACP opposes homophobia and discrimination against lesbian and gay people. The SACP supports full equality for lesbian and gay people in South Africa, Zimbabwe and the whole world.
